August 2005 Welcome to the Momaya Newsletter (1) Proudly announcing the winners of the 2005 Momaya Short Story Competition (2) Mark you diary - the 2005 Momaya Prize Ceremony (3) Order your copy of the 2005 Momaya Press The 2nd annual Momaya Short Story Competition built on the success of our inaugural year with a greater number of varied submissions. Congratulations to our winners, who were chosen from a pool of 177 submissions (an increase of 27% on the number of submissions we received in 2004). Authors submitted stories from sixteen countries around the world (an increase of four countries or 33% from 2004): Argentina, Australia, Cambodia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria, Spain, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States. Women accounted for 55% of the entries, and many writers chose to submit multiple stories. The three judges were Claire Nozieres, a literary agent at Andrew Nurnberg Associates; Jason Arthur, Editorial Director at Vintage (an imprint of Random House); and Lucy Alexander, a writer at The Times Magazine. The judges spoke highly of the overall quality of the submissions, and entered into lively debate over certain stories. They encourage those who submitted to keep writing, and expressed their interest in raising the profile of the short story in the literary world.
